Million Steps

For the second year, I’ve signed up for the Diabetes UK Million Step Challenge.

Until October, I need to do almost 11,000 steps a day, and as I write this on day 16, I’ve already done more than 200,000, which is a really good start. Last year I was only a couple of days away from my million when I tore my Achilles tendon (in a completely unrelated incident) and had to stop.

This is a charity that is really close to my heart – it’s right up there with the Scoliosis Association as they are both issues which affect my children. My youngest was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in November 2020. In a normal year, the local paediatric diabetes unit receive 20 diagnoses; in 2020, by the time of my son’s diagnosis, they’d already had 200. There is growing evidence that suggests a link between covid-19 and new diagnoses of diabetes.

If you can spare anything at all to help my fundraising effort, I would really appreciate it.
