Finale of John Balshaw’s Jigge

On Saturday 17 June 2023, I led a cast of students and professionals to put on the world premiere of John Balshaw’s Jigge in Brindle, where it was first written around 350 years ago. It was a fantastic experience for all concerned, and I’m pleased to say that the audience seemed to enjoy it as much as we did!

I don’t propose here to give you a blow by blow account of the performance – you can read about how we went about it in the descriptions of the rehearsals and hopefully, soon, you will be able to watch the video. What I do want to do is to give you a flavour of the performance through the photographs taken by my daughter, Anne.

After the performance, we struck the set and packed everything back into the cars, and repaired to the Cavendish Arms for a well-deserved drink and to think about where we can take the Jigge in future… Watch this space!
